Hire-Ability is committed to providing employers with the best possible candidates. In response to our employers in the food service industry we have developed the Café Phoenix Training Program. This program is designed to provide employers with trained candidates in the food service and specialty coffee industries. Café Phoenix operates as an actual business in the San Francisco Potrero Hill district.

Below is a description of our current curriculum:

Café Phoenix Training Program

Host/Hostess/Cashier Certificate

Safety and Sanitation: 8 hours
Food Anthropology: 4 hours
Cash Handling: 16 hours
Café/Formal Table Service: 8 hours
On-the-job Internship: 50 hours

TOTAL: 86 hours

Sanitation/Bus Person Certificate

Safety and Sanitation: 8 hours
Café/Formal Table Service: 8 hours
On-the-job Internship: 25 hours

TOTAL: 41 hours

Barista Certificate

Safety and Sanitation: 8 hours
Coffee Anthropology: 16 hours
Cash Handling: 16 hours
On-the-job Internship: 50 hours

TOTAL: 90 hours

Food Prep/Production Certificate

Safety and Sanitation: 8 hours
Food Anthropology: 4 hours
Intro Garde Manager: 24 hours
On-the-job Internship: 100 hours

TOTAL: 136 hours

Food Science Certificate

This course introduces the student to food composition in order to give a student a better understanding of the chemical reactions and changes that occur in the cooking process. The student is introduced to basic ingredients, properties and compositions in preparing food products.

TOTAL: 24 hours (lecture and lab)

Nutrition Certificate

This course introduces the basic principles of nutrition and the relationship of nutrition to health

TOTAL: 12 hours (lecture)

Introduction to Baking and Pastry Certificate

This course is an introduction to quick breads, muffins and pizza. The student will learn pies, tarts, cookies and basic cakes and icing techniques.
